Rabl Winery - History and Successes
| 1750 |
Around 1750 there was still mixed farming at today's winery. Parts of the original vaulted cellar still exist and are over 300 years old. |
|
| 1900 | My great-grandfather Ignaz Deibl already sold wine in wooden barrels to local innkeepers. | |
| 1946 | In this year my grandfather Karl Pell started to bottle his wines. He was one of the first ones to use 0.7l bottles. The origins of our Riesling Schenkenbichl, and our Grüner Veltliner Käferberg single vineyard date back to his era. | |
| 1951 | Grüner Veltliner Käferberg - vintage 1950 - became champion in the Wachau valley and Kamptal region. A great success for Karl Pell! | |
| 1968 | My father Rudolf Rabl sen joined the family business. | |
| 1986 | I, Rudolf Rabl jun, appeared on the family business scene. This was when we started to enlarge our vineyard area from 20ha to 75 ha. | |
| 1991 | Alongside several Lower Austria Champion awards we could also secure 'Salon Champion' for the first time in 1991- a great success we were able to repeat in 2007. | |
| 2004 | At 'Vinitaly' in Verona we were awarded 'Best Austrian Winery 2004' | |
| 2006 | Our Grüner Veltliner Käferberg 2004 won the trophy for International White Single Varietal at the 'Decanter World Wine Awards 2006' in London. | |
| 2007 | At the 'International Wine Challenge 2007' in London our Grüner Veltliner Käferberg 2005 was awarded the 'Austrian White Wine Trophy'. | |
| 2008 | A very successful year! Our Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese 2006 won 'Austrian Sweet Regional Trophy' at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2008, and our Grüner Veltliner Eiswein 2006 won the Eisweintrophy at the International Wine Challenge in London. Further champions this year were two vintages of our Riesling Steinhaus at the Sommelier Wine Awards: vintage 2007 was champion in the "by the glass" category, and vintage 2008 won gold. Since 1991 our wines have continuously been represented in 'Salon Österreichischer Wein' - Riesling Steinhaus even five times in a row! | |
| 2009 |
Another very successful year! Three Langenlois Champions and 'Winery of the Year'. At Mundus Vini all three wines we entered won gold medals with more than 90 points each. At the 'Austrian Wine Challenge' we were awarded three stars three times in a row. Furthermore we are listed in all Austrian wine guides. And last but not least a very recent success: we were elected 'Winery of the Year' by leading Swedish wine journalists. |
